A Local Thai Restaurant by the lake

Lob Mhum Patong is an excellent local Thai restaurant located by a small lake on the Patong hillside. It serves delicious local Thai cuisine for both lunch and dinner, and it exudes a lovely ambiance that makes you feel like you’re far away from Phuket. Surrounded by a serene atmosphere, this hidden gem features five bamboo huts with thatched roofs and a wooden terrace overlooking the lake. Moreover, it provides additional dining options at the lake’s edge. The view from the bamboo huts is stunning and contributes to the uniquely relaxing atmosphere.

Lob Mhum Patong is typically bustling on weekends with a mix of Thai locals and expats, while on weekdays, it maintains a peaceful atmosphere. Here, you can savor fantastic Thai dishes, refreshing drinks, and delectable desserts while observing the charming goldfish in a laid-back setting. It’s the perfect spot for a delightful Sunday lunch or dinner with friends. The prices are reasonable, although it’s no secret that nothing comes cheap in Phuket anymore. However, the further you are from Patong Beach, the more reasonable the prices become.

The Food at Lob Mhum Patong

We came on a sunny day of the week, perfect for lunch. The place was quiet and very inviting, but nobody, maybe it was too early. So we took the opportunity to take some photos! The vast menu is well-illustrated with images and descriptions of Thai food. It took some time before choosing the dishes. We indulged in some local fish and chicken dishes. The food is surprisingly delicious and well-presented. We tried some local fish dishes, including:

  • Fried Stripped Snakehead: Fried fish served with cashews nuts and pot herbs (350 Baht).
  • Fresh Oysters: Classic fresh oysters served with spicy sauces and garlic (30 baht each).
  • Lemon Steamed Sea Bass: Sea fish served in a hot dish with lemon sauce, garlic and chili (280 Baht).
  • Spicy Curry: It is a Thai local dish served with shrimps and stink beans in yellow curry sauce (70 Baht).

We had the most delicious local fish dishes perfectly cooked, preserving the delicate flavors of Thai cuisine. One of my favorites was the Steamed Sea Bass with lemon. I couldn’t finish it because I wanted to try other dishes too. The fish was tender and flavorful due to the steam-cooking method, served in a fish-shaped dish with lemon sauce, garlic, and fresh chili. The dish was kept warm by a blazing flame underneath, ensuring that it stayed hot throughout. The Steamed Sea Bass looked and tasted amazing. I highly recommend trying it!

We savored an array of local specialties, such as classic fried chicken wings, grilled chicken with sweet and sour sauce, and the ever-popular Thai Papaya Salad. Each dish exceeded our expectations, especially the simplicity of the Papaya Salad. To complement our meal, we indulged in a refreshing coconut smoothie and a delightful Mai Tai cocktail. As we sipped our drinks, we marveled at the amusing fish swimming around us, creating a truly unique dining experience.

Our visit to Lob Mhum Patong was an absolute delight, and we are already looking forward to returning. What was planned as a quick dinner turned into a several-hour-long, leisurely affair. Don’t miss the chance to savor the delectable local cuisine at Lob Mhum Patong – it’s an experience not to be missed.
