A peaceful beach on the southern tip of Phuket
Nai Harn Beach is a beautiful and picturesque beach with soft golden sand, in a pristine and secluded area on the southern tip of Phuket Island. This gem with powdery sand and crystal blue waters is surrounded by green hills and a tiny island, making it one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket.
During the high season, from November to April, the bay of Nai Harn attract so many sailboats and yachts because it offers shelter from the easterly winds, making it a picturesque bay, especially at sunset. It is a unique scenery that you should not miss while visiting Phuket.
Nai Harn Beach is wide with soft sand, and the water is emerald blue, making it a popular spot year-round. From November to April, it is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and other sea activities. However, in the low season, from May to October, the sea can be rough as there may be strong rip currents that are dangerous for swimmers. But, this season is popular with surfers who love surfing waves, especially in the southern part of the beach. This is one of the best spot for surfing in Phuket although few surfers make it this far south.
The beach provides 10% of an umbrella zone, shaded parking, beach massages, and several local Thai restaurants under the Casuarina pines. Additionally, a few steps from the beach, there is a beautifully decorated Buddhist temple, Nai Harn Temple, and a freshwater Nai Harn Lake popular for jogging. It remains one of the most peaceful beaches and is recommended for families or couples seeking a serene escape from noisy places.
The land in front of the beach itself is protected by the Samnak Song Nai Harn monastery which occupies a large portion of the beachfront land, and thankfully nothing can be built on it. What makes Nai Harn Beach so charming is its relatively undeveloped nature.
On the northern tip of the beach, The Nai Harn Phuket stands out among the green hills, recognized by its white color and massive structure. It is the only resort overlooking the beach and offers spectacular sea views.
Where Nai Harn Beach is located?
Located at southern tip of Phuket, between Ao Sane Beach and Ya Nui Beach, Nai Harn Beach is one of the best preserved stretches of shoreline of the island. Just south of the beach, is the stunning Windmill Viewpoint and the most famous Promthep Cape Viewpoint that offer panoramic views.
Beautiful destinations as Kata Beach and Karon Beach are at 10 kilometers north, and Patong Beach is at 17 kilometers far away. While Rawai Beach, popular for its numerous seafood restaurants, is just at 5 kilometers far away. Phuket Airport is 48 kilometers away, an hour and a half drive by taxi. While the airport is quite far from this destination, travelers choosing this location should be prepared for a long drive to reach it.
Nai Harn Beach is crowded?
At 700 meters in length, Nai Harn Beach ranks as one of the most popular beaches in the south of Phuket. Despite its popularity, it remains relatively calm and not crowded even during the peak season months of December and January. This beach is wide to allow tourists to never feel busy. The beauty of this beach is preserved by the surrounding area, which has not been overly developed, allowing it to maintain its peaceful charm.
Things to do on Nai Harn Beach
Nai Harn Beach is a quiet beach with fewer activities compared to the most popular Phuket beaches like Kata Beach and Patong Beach. You won’t find parasailing and jet skis here because vehicles cannot access the beach! However, visitors can explore nearby beaches, visit several viewpoints, and savor Thai food at the many local restaurants nearby.
On the central part of the beach, there are a few massage spots. When you’re tired of doing nothing, treat yourself to a beachside massage for 250-300 baht per hour. It’s the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate.
Nai Harn Temple, also known as Wat Nai Harn, is a beautifully decorated Buddhist temple situated between the beach and the lake. The temple has been renovated and now looks even more beautiful than before. It’s worth a visit while you are at the beach. Please be aware that wearing beachwear is not permitted when entering the temple.
Windmill Viewpoint is 2 kilometers south of Nai Harn Beach. The viewpoint is popular for watching sunsets. It is great to visit it also during the day when it offers panoramic sea views. The view towards the ocean is surprisingly beautiful.
Promthep Cape, also known as Laem Promthep, is located 3.5 kilometers south of Nai Harn Beach. It is a popular viewpoint situated at the southernmost point of the island, offering stunning views of the Andaman Sea and the surrounding islands. The cape is well-known for its breathtaking sunsets, making it a favorite spot for both tourists and locals. The area can get busy around 5:30 pm, as people gather to witness the spectacular scenery and capture sunset photos. It is a must-visit landmark while you are in Phuket.

Nai Harn Beach offers a variety of restaurants serving delicious Thai and international cuisine. You can choose from several restaurants set in the shade of the Casuarina trees or opt for some upmarket restaurants with unique sea views.

There are several local Thai restaurants behind the beach, set in the shade of the trees with a simple setting. They all look the same, with almost similar menus, but the only thing that distinguishes one place from the next is the difference in setting or service. They mainly serve delicious Thai dishes and refreshing drinks at a reasonable price. They are popular among tourists visiting the beach and can get quite busy, especially during the high season.
Rock Salt
Rock Salt, part of The Nai Harn Phuket, is an upmarket restaurant overlooking the sea, serving Mediterranean cuisine. Located on the northern tips of the beach, it’s the perfect place for a leisurely lunch or a romantic sunset dinner by the sea. The restaurant provides excellent service and high-quality food, although it’s on the pricier side, in line with the hotel’s standards.
Where to stay around Nai Harn Beach?
As mentioned earlier, the area of Nai Harn is relatively undeveloped, so there are only a few hotels near the beach. You can choose from 4 and 5-star hotels, but if you are on a tight budget, there are also some guesthouses located in the inner area. These hotels offer well-appointed rooms and suites, excellent restaurants, spas, and outdoor swimming pools, providing great value for money.
